RETRIEVER INTER CLUB WORKING TESTS
2nd August 2009

A team from the Worcestershire Gun Dog Society took part in the Retriever Inter club Working Tests held at the above event which took place at Caradoc, Sellack, Herefordshire. The competition involved six teams of four - two novice and two open dogs - with all members having to compete in four tests.

This year the WGDS team consisted of the following members and their dogs:-

Novice:

Tony Stanley with Springcote Abbey
Ann Colley with Nobsquinton Anubis of Castlepoint

Open:

Chris Bowers with Woodash Elsa
Norman Onens with Ravensthorpe Izzy

The tests were basically the same for both Novice and Open dogs, although the Open dogs had the distances extended. The tests were judged by Mr J. Jones and Mr B. Gregory and were as follows:

Test 1. A double mark with the second retrieve over a jump.
Test 2. A mark over a fence and ditch (blind retrieve for open dogs).
Test 3. Water retrieve which was limited due to the River Wye running very high.
Test 4. A blind retrieve with a mark distraction.

Our team performed well and scored highly at most of the tests, however the standard was quite high throughout the teams competing. When the results were announced the W.G.D.S. had achieved second place. The results of the other teams competing were as follows:

1. Wye Valley Retriever Club .. .. .. .. 443 points
2. W.G.D.S.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. 434 points
3. Clwyd Retriever Club .. .. .. .. .. .. .. 391 points
4. Wye Valley Juniors .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. 380 points
5. Labrador Club of Wales .. .. .. .. .. 363 points
6. Usk Valley Gun Dog Club .. .. .. .. 334 points

Congratulations once again to the members of our team who performed well but were eventually beaten for the top spot by a team whose two open dogs were the highest scoring two dogs and showed class throughout the competition.
