I became interested in Gun Dog training via my late husband Glyn, who had trained a number of English Springer Spaniels to work on our small pheasant shoot at Henley-in Arden. At that time I was ‘volunteered’ to work in the ‘beating line’ and much to my surprise thoroughly enjoyed the battle of keeping a straight line whilst negotiating huge bramble bushes and hawthorn trees! – very different from my 9-5 office job working for BT! We moved to Worcester in 1994 and when we got a new ESS puppy (Bertie) Glyn enrolled on the training course held at Hindlip Agricultural College in 1996. I went along to see how it was done and we both joined the Society taking an active part in various events organised. I became Secretary to the Society in April 2001, after serving on the committee for a couple of years. I had my first stab at training a dog when Billy came along and with a lot of help (and patience) from trainers and fellow members he progressed to a reasonable working dog. I enjoy gardening, holidays in Scotland and abroad. I am also secretary to our Shoot and attend meetings of the local committee for the Countryside Alliance representing Gun Dogs. On behalf of the Society I am involved with our annual working tests,
demonstrations at the various game fairs, scurries at the shows held
at The Three Counties Show Ground, assisting at the training sessions/courses
and last but not least making sure that the tea, coffee and biscuits
are provided for the monthly training sessions and courses! |
