Very much an outdoor person, Steve became
interested in beating at the age of 12 and helped on the local shoot.
On leaving school he served his apprenticeship on a local farm and attended
Hindlip College where he qualified to be a shepherd and following on from
this he trained a succession of Border Collies (better than chasing the
sheep himself).
When the farmer decided to give up sheep Steve diversified into forestry
and there his interest in shooting and beating was rekindled.
Never having envisaged owning a gundog himself, he acquired a sprocker
and kept one of her puppies, he enjoys beating on one of the local shoots
and BB, now 6 enjoys her days working the woodlands.
Steve joined the Society in 2004 everyone was extremely friendly and helpful
and very soon became involved in all aspect of the club.
Co-opted onto the committee in 2008 he became a full member at the 2009
AGM, and has for the past two years been one of the spaniel trainers.
